Psalms 33:5

33:5 The Lord promotes ¹  equity and justice;

the Lord’s faithfulness extends throughout the earth. ² 

Psalms 85:10

85:10 Loyal love and faithfulness meet; ³ 

deliverance and peace greet each other with a kiss. ⁴ 

Psalms 97:2

97:2 Dark clouds surround him;

equity and justice are the foundation of his throne. ⁵ 

[33:5]  ¹ tn Heb “loves.” The verb “loves” is here metonymic; the Lord’s commitment to principles of equity and justice causes him to actively promote these principles as he governs the world.

[33:5]  ² tn Heb “fills the earth.”

[85:10]  ³ tn The psalmist probably uses the perfect verbal forms in v. 10 in a dramatic or rhetorical manner, describing what he anticipates as if it were already occurring or had already occurred.

[85:10]  ⁴ sn Deliverance and peace greet each other with a kiss. The psalmist personifies these abstract qualities to emphasize that God’s loyal love and faithfulness will yield deliverance and peace for his people.

[97:2]  ⁵ sn The Lord’s throne symbolizes his kingship.
