28:3 Do not drag me away with evil men,

with those who behave wickedly, ¹ 

who talk so friendly to their neighbors, ² 

while they plan to harm them! ³

40:1 I relied completely ⁵  on the Lord,

and he turned toward me

and heard my cry for help.

Mazmur 69:2

69:2 I sink into the deep mire

where there is no solid ground; ⁶ 

I am in ⁷  deep water,

and the current overpowers me.

[28:3]  ² tn Heb “speakers of peace with their neighbors.”

[40:1]  ⁴ sn Psalm 40. The psalmist combines a song of thanksgiving for a recent act of divine deliverance (vv. 1-11) with a confident petition for renewed divine intervention (vv. 12-17).

[40:1]  ⁵ tn Heb “relying, I relied.” The infinitive absolute precedes the finite verbal form to emphasize the verbal idea. The emphasis is reflected in the translation through the adverb “completely.” Another option is to translate, “I waited patiently” (cf. NASB, NIV, NRSV).

[69:2]  ⁶ tn Heb “and there is no place to stand.”
