Telling and Explaining Parables (Matius 13:10-52; Markus 4:10-34; Lukas 8:9-18;13:18-21)
We assume from the accounts of Matthew and Mark that the parable of the sower was delivered from a boat, although this setting is not found in Luke. There is a change of scene when the disciples come to ask Christ why he is speaking in parables. The current heading is connected to this new scene, where Christ explains the parable of the sower and tells other parables about the Kingdom of God.

According to Matthew and Mark Jesus performs a miracle of this kind twice, the crowd being 5000 men at one occasion and 4000 at the other. Due to the similarity of the miracles, it is often impossible to decide which of the incidents the artwork represents. Hence, all the pictures depicting these miracles sort under the same heading.

The Mocking (Matius 26:67; Matius 27:27-31; Markus 14:65;15:16-20; Lukas 22:63-65;23:11; Yohanes 19:2)
As it is sometimes difficult to decide whether a picture depicts the mocking before the Sanhedrin, the one in which Herod takes part, or the one executed at Pilate's, all passion pictures of the mocking of Christ will be connected to the current heading sorting under both "Before the Sanhedrin", "Before Herod", and "Before Pilate". According to the accounts of the evangelists, the first scene (before the Sanhedrin) includes spitting, beating, covering of the face, and mockery, whereas the scene at Pilate's also contains the elements of the robe, the crown of thorns, and the staff. The mockery by Pilate's soldiers is not mentioned by Luke, but he connects a similar scene, including the element of the robe, to the Herod questioning.
