Markus 1:13

1:13 He was in the wilderness forty days, ¹  enduring temptations from Satan. He ²  was with wild animals, and angels were ministering to his needs. ³

6:55 They ran through that whole region and began to bring the sick on mats to wherever he was rumored to be. ⁴ 

Markus 9:5

9:5 So ⁵  Peter said to Jesus, ⁶  “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us make three shelters ⁷  – one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

[1:13]  ¹ sn The forty days may allude to the experience of Moses (Exod 34:28), Elijah (1 Kgs 19:8, 15), or David and Goliath (1 Sam 17:16).

[1:13]  ³ tn Grk “were serving him,” “were ministering to him.”

[6:55]  ⁴ tn Grk “wherever they heard he was.”

[9:5]  ⁵ tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “so” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

[9:5]  ⁶ tn Grk “And answering, Peter said to Jesus.” The participle ἀποκριθείς (apokriqeis) is redundant and has not been translated.

[9:5]  ⁷ tn Or “dwellings,” “booths” (referring to the temporary booths constructed in the celebration of the feast of Tabernacles).

[9:5]  sn Peter apparently wanted to celebrate the feast of Tabernacles or Booths that looked forward to the end and wanted to treat Moses, Elijah, and Jesus as equals by making three shelters (one for each). It was actually a way of expressing honor to Jesus, but the next few verses make it clear that it was not enough honor.
