13:1 Now ⁴  as Jesus ⁵  was going out of the temple courts, one of his disciples said to him, “Teacher, look at these tremendous stones and buildings!” ⁶ 

Markus 15:31

15:31 In the same way even the chief priests – together with the experts in the law ⁷  – were mocking him among themselves: ⁸  “He saved others, but he cannot save himself!

[1:10]  ¹ tn Grk “and immediately coming up out of the water, he saw.” The present participle has been translated temporally, with the subject (Jesus) specified for clarity.

[1:10]  ² tn Or “sky.” The Greek word οὐρανός (ouranos) may be translated “sky” or “heaven,” depending on the context. The same word is used in v. 11.

[1:10]  ³ sn The phrase like a dove is a descriptive comparison. The Spirit is not a dove, but descended like one in some sort of bodily representation.

[13:1]  ⁴ tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “now” to indicate the transition to a new topic.

[13:1]  ⁵ tn Grk “he”; the referent (Jesus) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[13:1]  ⁶ sn The Jerusalem temple was widely admired around the world. See Josephus, Ant. 15.11 [15.380-425]; J. W. 5.5 [5.184-227] and Tacitus, History 5.8, who called it “immensely opulent.” Josephus compared it to a beautiful snowcapped mountain.

[15:31]  ⁷ tn Or “with the scribes.” See the note on the phrase “experts in the law” in 1:22. Only “chief priests” is in the nominative case; this sentence structure attempts to capture this emphasis.

[15:31]  ⁸ tn Grk “Mocking him, the chief priests…said among themselves.”
