TB NETBible YUN-IBR Ref. Silang Nama Gambar Himne

Mikha 6:8

Konteks

6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good,

and what the Lord really wants from you: 1

He wants you to 2  promote 3  justice, to be faithful, 4

and to live obediently before 5  your God.

Lukas 11:42

Konteks

11:42 “But woe to you Pharisees! 6  You give a tenth 7  of your mint, 8  rue, 9  and every herb, yet you neglect justice 10  and love for God! But you should have done these things without neglecting the others. 11

[6:8]  1 sn What the Lord really wants from you. Now the prophet switches roles and answers the hypothetical worshiper’s question. He makes it clear that the Lord desires proper attitudes more than ritual and sacrifice.

[6:8]  2 tn Heb “except.” This statement is actually linked with what precedes, “What does he want from you except….”

[6:8]  3 tn Heb “to do,” in the sense of “promote.”

[6:8]  4 tn Heb “to love faithfulness.”

[6:8]  5 tn Heb “to walk humbly [or perhaps, “carefully”] with.”

[11:42]  6 tn Grk “Woe to you…because you…” The causal particle ὅτι (Joti) has not been translated here for rhetorical effect (and so to the end of this chapter).

[11:42]  7 tn Or “you tithe mint.”

[11:42]  8 sn These small herbs were tithed with great care (Mishnah, m. Demai 2:1).

[11:42]  9 tn Grk “and rue.” Καί (kai) has not been translated since English normally uses a coordinating conjunction only between the last two elements in a series of three or more.

[11:42]  sn Rue was an evergreen herb used for seasoning.

[11:42]  10 sn Justice was a major theme of OT ethics (Mic 6:8; Zech 7:8-10).

[11:42]  11 tn Grk “those”; but this has been translated as “the others” to clarify which are meant.
