14:7 I wish the deliverance ¹  of Israel would come from Zion!

When the Lord restores the well-being of his people, ² 

may Jacob rejoice, ³ 

may Israel be happy! ⁴ 

Yesaya 11:11

11:11 At that time ⁵  the sovereign master ⁶  will again lift his hand ⁷  to reclaim ⁸  the remnant of his people ⁹  from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, ¹⁰  Cush, ¹¹  Elam, Shinar, ¹²  Hamath, and the seacoasts. ¹³ 

Yeremia 12:15

12:15 But after I have uprooted the people of those nations, I will relent ¹⁴  and have pity on them. I will restore the people of each of those nations to their own lands ¹⁵  and to their own country.

[14:7]  ¹ sn The deliverance of Israel. This refers metonymically to God, the one who lives in Zion and provides deliverance for Israel.

[14:7]  ² tn Heb “turns with a turning [toward] his people.” The Hebrew term שְׁבוּת (shÿvut) is apparently a cognate accusative of שׁוּב (shuv).

[14:7]  ³ tn The verb form is jussive.

[14:7]  ⁴ tn Because the parallel verb is jussive, this verb, which is ambiguous in form, should be taken as a jussive as well.

[11:11]  ⁵ tn Or “in that day” (KJV). The verb that introduces this verse serves as a discourse particle and is untranslated; see note on “in the future” in 2:2.

[11:11]  ⁶ tn The Hebrew term translated “sovereign master” here is אֲדֹנָי (’adonai).

[11:11]  ⁷ tc The Hebrew text reads, “the sovereign master will again, a second time, his hand.” The auxiliary verb יוֹסִיף (yosif), which literally means “add,” needs a main verb to complete it. Consequently many emend שֵׁנִית (shenit, “a second time”) to an infinitive. Some propose the form שַׁנֹּת (shannot, a Piel infinitive construct from שָׁנָה, shanah) and relate it semantically to an Arabic cognate meaning “to be high.” If the Hebrew text is retained a verb must be supplied. “Second time” would allude back to the events of the Exodus (see vv. 15-16).

[11:11]  ⁸ tn Or “acquire”; KJV, ASV, NASB, NRSV “recover.”

[11:11]  ⁹ tn Heb “the remnant of his people who remain.”

[11:11]  ¹⁰ sn Perhaps a reference to Upper (i.e., southern) Egypt (so NIV, NLT; NCV “South Egypt”).

[11:11]  ¹¹ tn Or “Ethiopia” (NAB, NRSV, NLT).

[11:11]  ¹² tn Or “Babylonia” (NIV, NCV, TEV, NLT).

[11:11]  ¹³ tn Or perhaps, “the islands of the sea.”

[12:15]  ¹⁴ tn For the use of the verb “turn” (שׁוּב, shuv) in this sense, see BDB s.v. שׁוּב Qal.6.g and compare the usage in Pss 90:13; 6:4; Joel 2:14. It does not simply mean “again” as several of the English versions render it.

[12:15]  ¹⁵ sn The Lord is sovereign over the nations and has allotted each of them their lands. See Deut 2:5 (Edom), Deut 2:9 (Moab), Deut 2:19 (Ammon). He promised to restore not only his own people Israel to their land (Jer 32:37) but also Moab (Jer 48:47) and Ammon (Jer 49:6).
