1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened this way. While his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they came together, ¹  she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.

[1:18]  ¹ tn The connotation of the Greek is “before they came together in marital and domestic union” (so BDAG 970 s.v. συνέρχομαι 3).

[5:15]  ² tn Grk “Nor do they light.” The plural in Greek is indefinite, referring to people in general.

[5:15]  ³ tn Or “a bowl”; this refers to any container for dry material of about eight liters (two gallons) capacity. It could be translated “basket, box, bowl” (L&N 6.151).

[9:35]  ⁴ tn Or “cities.”

[9:35]  ⁵ sn See the note on synagogues in 4:23.

[9:35]  ⁶ tn Grk “and every [kind of] sickness.” Here “every” was not repeated in the translation for stylistic reasons.
