The Genealogy of Jesus Christ

1:1 This is the record of the genealogy ¹  of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

[1:1]  ¹ tn Grk “the book of the genealogy.” The noun βίβλος (biblo"), though it is without the article, is to be translated as definite due to Apollonius’ corollary and the normal use of anarthrous nouns in titles.

[9:34]  ⁴ tc Although codex Cantabrigiensis (D), along with a few other Western versional and patristic witnesses, lacks this verse, virtually all other witnesses have it. The Western text’s reputation for free alterations as well as the heightened climax if v. 33 concludes this pericope explains why these witnesses omitted the verse.

[20:24]  ⁵ tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “now” to indicate the transition to a new topic.

[20:24]  ⁶ tn Grk “the ten.”

[20:24]  ⁷ tn The word “this” is not in the Greek text, but is supplied. Direct objects were often omitted in Greek when clear from the context.

[24:35]  ⁹ sn The words that Jesus predicts here will never pass away. They are more stable and lasting than creation itself. For this kind of image, see Isa 40:8; 55:10-11.

[24:46]  ¹⁰ tn That is, doing his job, doing what he is supposed to be doing.

[26:5]  ¹¹ sn The suggestion here is that Jesus was too popular to openly arrest him.
