7:42 When they could not pay, he canceled ¹  the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”

Lukas 14:14

14:14 Then ²  you will be blessed, ³  because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid ⁴  at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Lukas 16:28

16:28 (for I have five brothers) to warn ⁵  them so that they don’t come ⁶  into this place of torment.’

[7:42]  ¹ tn The verb ἐχαρίσατο (ecarisato) could be translated as “forgave.” Of course this pictures the forgiveness of God’s grace, which is not earned but bestowed with faith (see v. 49).

[14:14]  ² tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate that this follows from the preceding action. Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation.

[14:14]  ³ sn You will be blessed. God notes and approves of such generosity.

[14:14]  ⁴ sn The passive verb will be repaid looks at God’s commendation.

[16:28]  ⁵ sn To warn them. The warning would consist of a call to act differently than their dead brother had, or else meet his current terrible fate.

[16:28]  ⁶ tn Grk “lest they also come.”
