7:42 When they could not pay, he canceled ¹  the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”

Lukas 13:2

13:2 He ²  answered them, “Do you think these Galileans were worse sinners ³  than all the other Galileans, because they suffered these things?

[7:42]  ¹ tn The verb ἐχαρίσατο (ecarisato) could be translated as “forgave.” Of course this pictures the forgiveness of God’s grace, which is not earned but bestowed with faith (see v. 49).

[13:2]  ² tn Grk “And he.” Here καί (kai) has been translated as “now” to indicate the transition to a new topic.

[13:2]  ³ sn Jesus did not want his hearers to think that tragedy was necessarily a judgment on these people because they were worse sinners.
