13:6 Then ⁶  Jesus ⁷  told this parable: “A man had a fig tree ⁸  planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it and found none.

Lukas 18:39

18:39 And those who were in front ⁹  scolded ¹⁰  him to get him to be quiet, but he shouted ¹¹  even more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

[4:35]  ¹ tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “but” to indicate the contrast involved in Jesus’ reply.

[4:35]  ² tn Grk “rebuked him, saying.” The participle λέγων (legwn) is redundant in English and has not been translated.

[4:35]  ³ sn The command Come out of him! is an example of Jesus’ authority (see v. 32). Unlike other exorcists, Jesus did not use magical incantations nor did he invoke anyone else’s name.

[4:35]  ⁴ tn Grk “him”; the referent (the man) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[4:35]  ⁵ sn The departure of the evil spirit from the man without hurting him shows Jesus’ total deliverance and protection of this individual.

[13:6]  ⁶ tn Here δέ (de) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

[13:6]  ⁸ sn The fig tree is a variation on the picture of a vine as representing the nation; see Isa 5:1-7.

[18:39]  ¹⁰ tn Or “rebuked.” The crowd’s view was that surely Jesus would not be bothered with someone as unimportant as a blind beggar.

[18:39]  ¹¹ sn Public opinion would not sway the blind man from getting Jesus’ attention. The term shouted is strong as it can be used of animal cries.
