The Testimony of Anna

2:36 There was also a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old, ¹  having been married to her husband for seven years until his death.

[2:36]  ¹ tn Her age is emphasized by the Greek phrase here, “she was very old in her many days.”

[8:35]  ² tn Here δέ (de) has been translated as “so” to indicate the people’s response to the report.

[8:35]  ³ tn Grk “Jesus, and they.” Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style. Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation.

[12:33]  ⁴ sn The call to sell your possessions is a call to a lack of attachment to the earth and a generosity as a result.

[12:33]  ⁵ tn Grk “give alms,” but this term is not in common use today.

[12:33]  ⁶ tn Grk “in the heavens.”

[12:33]  ⁷ tn Or “an unfailing treasure in heaven,” or “an inexhaustible treasure in heaven.”

[12:33]  ⁸ tn The term σής (shs) refers to moths in general. It is specifically the larvae of moths that destroy clothing by eating holes in it (L&N 4.49; BDAG 922 s.v.). See Jas 5:2, which mentions “moth-eaten” clothing.
