Lukas 17:34
Konteks17:34 I tell you, in that night there will be two people in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. 1
Lukas 21:11
Konteks21:11 There will be great earthquakes, and famines 2 and plagues in various places, and there will be terrifying sights 3 and great signs 4 from heaven.
[17:34] 1 sn There is debate among commentators and scholars over the phrase one will be taken and the other left about whether one is taken for judgment or for salvation. If the imagery is patterned after the rescue of Noah from the flood and Lot from Sodom, as some suggest, the ones taken are the saved (as Noah and Lot were) andthose left behind are judged. The imagery, however, is not directly tied to theidentification of the two groups. Its primary purposein context is topicture the sudden, surprisingseparation of the righteous and the judged (i.e., condemned) at the return of the Son of Man.
[21:11] 2 sn See Isa 5:13-14; 13:6-16; Hag 2:6-7; Zech 14:4.
[21:11] 3 tn This term, φόβητρον (fobhtron), occurs only here in the NT. It could refer to an object, event, or condition that causes fear, but in the context it is linked with great signs from heaven, so the translation “sights” was preferred.
[21:11] 4 sn See Jer 4:13-22; 14:12; 21:6-7.
