Lukas 14:10

14:10 But when you are invited, go and take the least important place, so that when your host ¹  approaches he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up here to a better place.’ ²  Then you will be honored in the presence of all who share the meal with you.

Lukas 20:21

20:21 Thus ³  they asked him, “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach correctly, ⁴  and show no partiality, but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. ⁵ 

[14:10]  ¹ tn Grk “the one who invited you.”

[14:10]  ² tn Grk “Go up higher.” This means to move to a more important place.

[20:21]  ³ tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “thus” to indicate the implied result of the plans by the spies.

[20:21]  ⁴ tn Or “precisely”; Grk “rightly.” Jesus teaches exactly, the straight and narrow.

[20:21]  ⁵ sn Teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Very few comments are as deceitful as this one; they did not really believe this at all. The question was specifically designed to trap Jesus.
