10:26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you understand it?” ¹

Jesus’ Final Commission

24:44 Then ⁶  he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me ⁷  in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms ⁸  must be fulfilled.”

[10:26]  ¹ tn Grk “How do you read?” The pronoun “it” is not in the Greek text, but is implied. Direct objects were frequently omitted in Greek when clear from the context.

[2:23]  ² tn Grk “every male that opens the womb” (an idiom for the firstborn male).

[2:23]  ³ sn An allusion to Exod 13:2, 12, 15.

[2:24]  ⁴ sn The offering of a pair of doves or two young pigeons, instead of a lamb, speaks of the humble roots of Jesus’ family – they apparently could not afford the expense of a lamb.

[2:24]  ⁵ sn A quotation from Lev 12:8; 5:11 (LXX).

[24:44]  ⁶ tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

[24:44]  ⁷ sn Everything written about me. The divine plan, events, and scripture itself are seen here as being one.
