1:4 since ¹  we heard about your faith in Christ Jesus and the love that you have for all the saints.

Kolose 3:23

3:23 Whatever you are doing, ²  work at it with enthusiasm, ³  as to the Lord and not for people, ⁴ 

[1:4]  ¹ tn The adverbial participle ἀκούσαντες (akousante") is understood to be temporal and translated with “since.” A causal idea may also be in the apostle’s mind, but the context emphasizes temporal ideas, e.g., “from the day” (v. 6).

[3:23]  ² tn The present progressive “are doing” was used in the translation of ποιῆτε (poihte) to bring out the idea that Paul is probably referring to what they already do for work.

[3:23]  ³ tn Grk “from the soul.”

[3:23]  ⁴ tn Grk “men”; here ἀνθρώποις (anqrwpoi") is used in a generic sense and refers to people in general.
