Kejadian 36:43
Konteks36:43 chief Magdiel, chief Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements 4 in the land they possessed. This was Esau, the father of the Edomites.
[9:7] 1 sn The disjunctive clause (conjunction + pronominal subject + verb) here indicates a strong contrast to what has preceded. Against the backdrop of the warnings about taking life, God now instructs the people to produce life, using terms reminiscent of the mandate given to Adam (Gen 1:28).
[23:3] 2 tn Heb “And Abraham arose from upon the face of his dead.”
[23:3] 3 tn Some translate the Hebrew term “Heth” as “Hittites” here (also in vv. 5, 7, 10, 16, 18, 20), but this gives the impression that these people were the classical Hittites of Anatolia. However, there is no known connection between these sons of Heth, apparently a Canaanite group (see Gen 10:15), and the Hittites of Asia Minor. See H. A. Hoffner, Jr., “Hittites,” Peoples of the Old Testament World, 152-53.
[36:43] 4 tn Or perhaps “territories”; Heb “dwelling places.”
