[9:23]  1 tn The word translated “garment” has the Hebrew definite article on it. The article may simply indicate that the garment is definite and vivid in the mind of the narrator, but it could refer instead to Noah’s garment. Did Ham bring it out when he told his brothers?

[9:23]  2 tn Heb “their faces [were turned] back.”

[23:13]  3 tn Heb “give.”

[23:13]  4 tn Heb “silver.”

[23:13]  5 tn After the imperative, the cohortative with the prefixed conjunction expresses purpose or result.

[37:10]  6 sn The question What is this dream that you had? expresses Jacob’s dismay at what he perceives to be Joseph’s audacity.

[37:10]  7 tn Heb “Coming, will we come, I and your mother and your brothers, to bow down to you to the ground?” The verb “come” is preceded by the infinitive absolute, which lends emphasis. It is as if Jacob said, “You don’t really think we will come…to bow down…do you?”
