Kejadian 9:2

9:2 Every living creature of the earth and every bird of the sky will be terrified of you. ¹  Everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea are under your authority. ² 

Mazmur 8:7-9

8:7 including all the sheep and cattle,

as well as the wild animals, ³ 

8:8 the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea

and everything that moves through the currents ⁴  of the seas.

8:9 O Lord, our Lord, ⁵ 

how magnificent ⁶  is your reputation ⁷  throughout the earth! ⁸ 

[9:2]  ¹ tn Heb “and fear of you and dread of you will be upon every living creature of the earth and upon every bird of the sky.” The suffixes on the nouns “fear” and “dread” are objective genitives. The animals will fear humans from this time forward.

[9:2]  ² tn Heb “into your hand are given.” The “hand” signifies power. To say the animals have been given into the hands of humans means humans have been given authority over them.

[8:7]  ³ tn Heb “and also the beasts of the field.”

[8:8]  ⁴ tn Heb “paths.”

[8:9]  ⁵ tn The plural form of the title emphasizes the Lord’s absolute sovereignty.

[8:9]  ⁶ tn Or “awesome, majestic.”

[8:9]  ⁷ tn Heb “name,” which here stands metonymically for God’s reputation.

[8:9]  ⁸ sn Using the poetic device of inclusio, the psalmist ends the psalm the way he began it. The concluding refrain is identical to v. 1.
