50:24 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die. But God will surely come to you ¹  and lead you up from this land to the land he swore on oath to give ²  to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

13:2 “Send out men to investigate ³  the land of Canaan, which I am giving ⁴  to the Israelites. You are to send one man from each ancestral tribe, ⁵  each one a leader among them.”

Ulangan 1:8

1:8 Look! I have already given the land to you. ⁶  Go, occupy the territory that I, ⁷  the Lord, promised ⁸  to give to your ancestors ⁹  Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and to their descendants.” ¹⁰ 

[50:24]  ¹ tn The verb פָּקַד (paqad) means “to visit,” i.e., to intervene for blessing or cursing; here Joseph announces that God would come to fulfill the promises by delivering them from Egypt. The statement is emphasized by the use of the infinitive absolute with the verb: “God will surely visit you.”

[50:24]  ² tn The words “to give” are supplied in the translation for clarity and for stylistic reasons.

[13:2]  ³ tn The imperfect tense with the conjunction is here subordinated to the preceding imperative to form the purpose clause. It can thus be translated “send…to investigate.”

[13:2]  ⁴ tn The participle here should be given a future interpretation, meaning “which I am about to give” or “which I am going to give.”

[13:2]  ⁵ tn Heb “one man one man of the tribe of his fathers.”

[1:8]  ⁶ tn Heb “I have placed before you the land.”

[1:8]  ⁷ tn Heb “the Lord.” Since the Lord is speaking, it is preferable for clarity to supply the first person pronoun in the translation.
