[30:29]  1 tn Heb “and he said to him, ‘You know how I have served you.’” The order of the introductory clause and the direct discourse has been rearranged in the translation for stylistic reasons, and the referent of the pronoun “he” (Jacob) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[30:29]  2 tn Heb “and how your cattle were with me.”

[31:28]  3 tn Heb “my sons and my daughters.” Here “sons” refers to “grandsons,” and has been translated “grandchildren” since at least one granddaughter, Dinah, was involved. The order has been reversed in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[39:11]  4 tn Heb “and it was about this day.”

[39:11]  5 tn Heb “the men of the house.”

[41:38]  6 tn Heb “like this,” but the referent could be misunderstood to be a man like that described by Joseph in v. 33, rather than Joseph himself. For this reason the proper name “Joseph” has been supplied in the translation.

[41:38]  7 tn The rhetorical question expects the answer “No, of course not!”

[44:5]  8 tn Heb “Is this not what my master drinks from.” The word “cup” is not in the Hebrew text, but is obviously the referent of “this,” and so has been supplied in the translation for clarity.

[44:5]  9 tn Heb “and he, divining, divines with it.” The infinitive absolute is emphatic, stressing the importance of the cup to Joseph.

[44:5]  10 tn Heb “you have caused to be evil what you have done.”

[47:3]  11 tn Heb “his”; the referent (Joseph) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[47:3]  12 tn Heb “both we and our fathers.”
