10:15 Canaan was the father of ¹  Sidon his firstborn, ²  Heth, ³

35:29 Then Isaac breathed his last and joined his ancestors. ⁴  He died an old man who had lived a full life. ⁵  His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

[10:15]  ² sn Sidon was the foremost city in Phoenicia; here Sidon may be the name of its founder.

[10:15]  ³ tn Some see a reference to “Hittites” here (cf. NIV), but this seems unlikely. See the note on the phrase “sons of Heth” in Gen 23:3.

[35:29]  ⁴ tn Heb “and Isaac expired and died and he was gathered to his people.” In the ancient Israelite view he joined his deceased ancestors in Sheol, the land of the dead.

[35:29]  ⁵ tn Heb “old and full of years.”
