TB NETBible YUN-IBR Ref. Silang Nama Gambar Himne

Yesaya 28:22

Konteks

28:22 So now, do not mock,

or your chains will become heavier!

For I have heard a message about decreed destruction,

from the sovereign master, the Lord who commands armies, against the entire land. 1

Yesaya 30:12-14

Konteks

30:12 For this reason this is what the Holy One of Israel says:

“You have rejected this message; 2

you trust instead in your ability to oppress and trick, 3

and rely on that kind of behavior. 4

30:13 So this sin will become your downfall.

You will be like a high wall

that bulges and cracks and is ready to collapse;

it crumbles suddenly, in a flash. 5

30:14 It shatters in pieces like a clay jar,

so shattered to bits that none of it can be salvaged. 6

Among its fragments one cannot find a shard large enough 7

to scoop a hot coal from a fire 8

or to skim off water from a cistern.” 9

Daniel 9:26-27

Konteks

9:26 Now after the sixty-two weeks,

an anointed one will be cut off and have nothing. 10

As for the city and the sanctuary,

the people of the coming prince will destroy 11  them.

But his end will come speedily 12  like a flood. 13

Until the end of the war that has been decreed

there will be destruction.

9:27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one week. 14

But in the middle of that week

he will bring sacrifices and offerings to a halt.

On the wing 15  of abominations will come 16  one who destroys,

until the decreed end is poured out on the one who destroys.”

Matius 24:21

Konteks
24:21 For then there will be great suffering 17  unlike anything that has happened 18  from the beginning of the world until now, or ever will happen.

[28:22]  1 tn Or “the whole earth” (KJV, ASV, NAB, NCV).

[30:12]  2 tn The sentence actually begins with the word “because.” In the Hebrew text vv. 12-13 are one long sentence.

[30:12]  3 tn Heb “and you trust in oppression and cunning.”

[30:12]  4 tn Heb “and you lean on it”; NAB “and depend on it.”

[30:13]  5 tn The verse reads literally, “So this sin will become for you like a breach ready to fall, bulging on a high wall, the breaking of which comes suddenly, in a flash.” Their sin produces guilt and will result in judgment. Like a wall that collapses their fall will be swift and sudden.

[30:14]  6 tn Heb “Its shattering is like the shattering of a jug of [i.e., “made by”] potters, [so] shattered one cannot save [any of it].”

[30:14]  7 tn The words “large enough” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

[30:14]  8 tn Heb “to remove fire from the place of kindling.”

[30:14]  9 tn On the meaning of גֶבֶא (geveh, “cistern”) see HALOT 170 s.v.

[9:26]  10 sn The expression have nothing is difficult. Presumably it refers to an absence of support or assistance for the anointed one at the time of his “cutting off.” The KJV rendering “but not for himself,” apparently suggesting a vicarious death, cannot be defended.

[9:26]  11 tc Some witnesses (e.g., the Syriac) understand a passive verb and the preposition עִם (’im, “with) rather than the noun עַם (’am, “people”), thus reading “the city and the sanctuary will be destroyed with the coming prince.”

[9:26]  12 tn The words “will come speedily” are not in the Hebrew text but have been added in the translation for clarity.

[9:26]  13 sn Flood here is a metaphor for sudden destruction.

[9:27]  14 tn Heb “one seven” (also later in this line).

[9:27]  15 tn The referent of the Hebrew word כְּנַף (kÿnaf, “wing”) is unclear here. The LXX and Theodotion have “the temple.” Some English versions (e.g., NAB, NIV) take this to mean “a wing of the temple,” but this is not clear.

[9:27]  16 tn The Hebrew text does not have this verb, but it has been supplied in the translation for clarity.

[24:21]  17 tn Traditionally, “great tribulation.”

[24:21]  18 sn Suffering unlike anything that has happened. Some refer this event to the destruction of Jerusalem in a.d. 70. While the events of a.d. 70 may reflect somewhat the comments Jesus makes here, the reference to the scope and severity of this judgment strongly suggest that much more is in view. Most likely Jesus is referring to the great end-time judgment on Jerusalem in the great tribulation.
