[7:1]  1 tn Heb “and all the people who were with him.”

[7:1]  2 sn The name Harod means, ironically, “trembling.”

[7:1]  3 tn Heb “Midian.” The LXX reads “and Amalek” (cf. v. 12; 6:33).

[11:20]  4 tn Heb “Sihon.” The proper name (“Sihon”) has been replaced in the translation by the pronoun (“he”) because of English style; a repetition of the proper name here would be redundant in English.

[11:20]  5 tn Heb “all his people” (also in the following verse).

[18:12]  6 tn Or “Mahaneh Dan”; the Hebrew term “Mahaneh” means “camp [of].” Many English versions retain the transliterated Hebrew expression, but cf. CEV “Dan’s Camp.”

[18:12]  7 tn Heb “behind.”
