Konteks45:14 This is what the Lord says:
“The profit 4 of Egypt and the revenue 5 of Ethiopia,
along with the Sabeans, those tall men,
will be brought to you 6 and become yours.
They will walk behind you, coming along in chains. 7
They will bow down to you
and pray to you: 8
‘Truly God is with 9 you; he has no peer; 10
there is no other God!’”

[3:15] 2 tn The phrase, which refers to Ehud, literally reads “bound/restricted in the right hand,” apparently a Hebrew idiom for a left-handed person. See Judg 20:16, where 700 Benjaminites are described in this way. Perhaps the Benjaminites purposely trained several of their young men to be left-handed warriors by restricting the use of the right hand from an early age so the left hand would become dominant. Left-handed men would have a distinct military advantage, especially when attacking city gates. See B. Halpern, “The Assassination of Eglon: The First Locked-Room Murder Mystery,” BRev 4 (1988): 35.

[45:14] 7 sn Restored Israel is depicted here in typical ancient Near Eastern fashion as an imperial power that receives riches and slaves as tribute.
[45:14] 8 sn Israel’s vassals are portrayed as so intimidated and awed that they treat Israel as an intermediary to God or sub-deity.
[45:14] 9 tn Or perhaps, “among.” Cf. KJV, ASV “Surely God is in thee.”
