45:27 But when they related to him everything Joseph had said to them, ¹  and when he saw the wagons that Joseph had sent to transport him, their father Jacob’s spirit revived.

The Reconciliation of the Brothers

45:1 Joseph was no longer able to control himself before all his attendants, ²  so he cried out, “Make everyone go out from my presence!” No one remained ³  with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers.

1 Samuel 30:12

30:12 They gave him a slice of pressed figs and two bunches of raisins to eat. This greatly refreshed him, ⁴  for he had not eaten food or drunk water for three days and three nights.

Yesaya 40:26

40:26 Look up at the sky! ⁵ 

Who created all these heavenly lights? ⁶ 

He is the one who leads out their ranks; ⁷ 

he calls them all by name.

Because of his absolute power and awesome strength,

not one of them is missing.

[30:12]  ⁴ tn Heb “his spirit returned to him.”

[40:26]  ⁵ tn Heb “Lift on high your eyes and see.”

[40:26]  ⁶ tn The words “heavenly lights” are supplied in the translation for clarification. See the following lines.

[40:26]  ⁷ tn Heb “the one who brings out by number their host.” The stars are here likened to a huge army that the Lord leads out. Perhaps the next line pictures God calling roll. If so, the final line may be indicating that none of them dares “go AWOL.” (“AWOL” is a military acronym for “absent without leave.”)
