Daniel 5:16

5:16 However, I have heard ¹  that you are able to provide interpretations and to decipher knotty problems. Now if you are able to read this writing and make known to me its interpretation, you will wear purple and have a golden collar around your neck and be third ²  ruler in the kingdom.”

Daniel 7:27

7:27 Then the kingdom, authority,

and greatness of the kingdoms under all of heaven

will be delivered to the people of the holy ones ³  of the Most High.

His kingdom is an eternal kingdom;

all authorities will serve him and obey him.’

Daniel 10:13

10:13 However, the prince of the kingdom of Persia was opposing me for twenty-one days. But ⁴  Michael, one of the leading princes, came to help me, because I was left there ⁵  with the kings of Persia.

Daniel 10:20

10:20 He said, “Do you know why I have come to you? ⁶  Now I am about to return to engage in battle with the prince of Persia. When I go, the prince of Greece is coming.

[5:16]  ² tn Or perhaps “one of three rulers,” in the sense of becoming part of a triumvir. So also v. 29.

[7:27]  ³ tn If the “holy ones” are angels, then this probably refers to the angels as protectors of God’s people. If the “holy ones” are God’s people, then this is an appositional construction, “the people who are the holy ones.” See 8:24 for the corresponding Hebrew phrase and the note there.

[10:13]  ⁴ tn Heb “and behold.”

[10:13]  ⁵ tc The Greek version of Theodotion reads “I left him [i.e., Michael] there,” and this is followed by a number of English translations (cf. NAB, NRSV, NLT).
