Daniel 1:20

1:20 In every matter of wisdom and ¹  insight the king asked them about, he found them to be ten times ²  better than any of the magicians and astrologers that were in his entire empire.

Daniel 6:13

6:13 Then they said to the king, “Daniel, who is one of the captives ³  from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or to the edict that you issued. Three times daily he offers his prayer.” ⁴ 

Daniel 6:17

6:17 Then a stone was brought and placed over the opening ⁵  to the den. The king sealed ⁶  it with his signet ring and with those ⁷  of his nobles so that nothing could be changed with regard to Daniel.

Daniel 9:13

9:13 Just as it is written in the law of Moses, so all this calamity has come on us. Still we have not tried to pacify ⁸  the LORD our God by turning back from our sin and by seeking wisdom ⁹  from your reliable moral standards. ¹⁰ 

[1:20]  ¹ tc The MT lacks the conjunction, reading the first word in the phrase as a construct (“wisdom of insight”). While this reading is not impossible, it seems better to follow Theodotion, the Syriac, the Vulgate, and the Sahidic Coptic, all of which have the conjunction.

[1:20]  ² tn Heb “hands.”

[6:13]  ³ tn Aram “from the sons of the captivity [of].”

[6:13]  ⁴ tn Aram “prays his prayer.”

[6:17]  ⁵ tn Aram “mouth.”

[6:17]  ⁶ sn The purpose of the den being sealed was to prevent unauthorized tampering with the opening of the den. Any disturbance of the seal would immediately alert the officials to improper activity of this sort.

[6:17]  ⁷ tn Aram “the signet rings.”

[9:13]  ⁸ tn Heb “we have not pacified the face of.”

[9:13]  ⁹ tn Or “by gaining insight.”

[9:13]  ¹⁰ tn Heb “by your truth.” The Hebrew term does not refer here to abstract truth, however, but to the reliable moral guidance found in the covenant law. See vv 10-11.
