Ayub 18:18
Konteks18:18 He is driven 1 from light into darkness
and is banished from the world.
Ayub 20:8
Konteks20:8 Like a dream he flies away, never again to be found, 2
and like a vision of the night he is put to flight.
Yesaya 22:18
Konteks22:18 He will wind you up tightly into a ball
and throw you into a wide, open land. 3
There you will die,
and there with you will be your impressive chariots, 4
which bring disgrace to the house of your master. 5
[18:18] 1 tn The verbs in this verse are plural; without the expressed subject they should be taken in the passive sense.
[20:8] 2 tn Heb “and they do not find him.” The verb has no expressed subject, and so here is equivalent to a passive. The clause itself is taken adverbially in the sentence.
[22:18] 3 tn Heb “and he will tightly [or “surely”] wind you [with] winding like a ball, to a land broad of hands [i.e., “sides”].”
[22:18] 4 tn Heb “and there the chariots of your splendor.”
[22:18] 5 sn Apparently the reference to chariots alludes to Shebna’s excessive pride, which in turn brings disgrace to the royal family.
