Ayub 37:17

37:17 You, whose garments are hot

when the earth is still because of the south wind,

24:19 The drought as well as the heat carry away

the melted snow; ¹ 

so the grave ²  takes away those who have sinned. ³

39:14 For she leaves ⁴  her eggs on the ground,

and lets them be warmed on the soil.

[24:19]  ² tn Or “so Sheol.”

[24:19]  ³ tn This is the meaning of the verse, which in Hebrew only has “The grave / they have sinned.”

[39:14]  ⁴ tn The meaning may have the connotation of “lays; places,” rather than simply abandoning (see M. Dahood, “The Root ’zb II in Job,” JBL 78 [1959]: 307f.).
