[8:18]  1 tn Heb “and Huram sent to him by the hand of his servants, ships, and servants [who] know the sea, and they came with the servants of Solomon to Ophir.”

[8:18]  2 tn The Hebrew word כִּכַּר (kikar, “circle”) refers generally to something that is round. When used of metals it can refer to a disk-shaped weight made of the metal or, by extension, to a standard unit of weight. According to the older (Babylonian) standard the “talent” weighed 130 lbs. (58.9 kg), but later this was lowered to 108.3 lbs. (49.1 kg). More recent research suggests the “light” standard talent was 67.3 lbs. (30.6 kg). Using this as the standard for calculation, the weight of the gold was 30,285 lbs. (13,770 kg).

[20:6]  3 tn Heb “fathers” (also in v. 33).

[20:6]  4 tn Heb “are you not God in heaven?” The rhetorical question expects the answer “yes,” resulting in the positive statement “you are the God who lives in heaven” employed in the translation.

[20:37]  5 tn Heb “when.”

[20:37]  6 tn Heb “to go to Tarshish.”

[24:20]  7 tn Heb “clothed.”

[25:19]  8 tn Heb “you say [to yourself], ‘look, you have defeated Edom.’”

[25:19]  9 tn Heb “and your heart is lifted up.”

[25:19]  10 tn Heb “to glorify.”

[25:19]  11 tn Heb “Why get involved in calamity and fall, you and Judah with you?”

[28:5]  12 tn Heb “they”; the referent (the Syrians) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[28:5]  13 tn Heb “and took captive from him a great captivity and brought [them] to Damascus.”

[28:5]  14 tn Heb “who struck him down with a great striking.”

[34:22]  15 tn Heb “and those who [were sent by] the king.”

[34:22]  16 tn The parallel account in 2 Kgs 22:14 has the variant spelling “son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas.”

[34:22]  17 tn Heb “the keeper of the clothes.”

[34:22]  18 tn Or “second.” For a discussion of the possible location of this district, see M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings (AB), 283.

[34:22]  19 tn Heb “and they spoke to her like this.”

[36:22]  20 tn The words “the reign of” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

[36:22]  21 tn Heb “to complete the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah.”

[36:22]  sn Regarding the promise he delivered through Jeremiah see Jer 29:10.

[36:22]  22 tn Heb “stirred the spirit of.”
