[3:17]  1 tn Or “one on the south and the other on the north.”

[3:17]  2 tn The name “Jachin” appears to be a verbal form and probably means, “he establishes.”

[3:17]  3 tn The meaning of the name “Boaz” is uncertain. For various proposals, see BDB 126-27 s.v. בֹּעַז. One attractive option is to revocalize the name asבְּעֹז (bÿoz, “in strength”) and to understand it as completing the verbal form on the first pillar. Taking the words together and reading from right to left, one can translate the sentence, “he establishes [it] in strength.”

[4:19]  4 tn Heb “the bread of the face/presence.”

[4:19]  sn This bread offered to God was viewed as a perpetual offering to God. See Lev 24:5-9.

[6:22]  5 tn Heb “and if the man who sins against his neighbor when one takes up against him a curse to curse him and the curse comes before your altar in this house.”

[20:16]  6 tn Heb “look.”

[25:8]  7 tn Heb “cause you to stumble.”

[25:8]  8 tn Heb “to cause to stumble.”

[33:2]  9 tn Heb “in the eyes of.”

[33:2]  10 tn Heb “like the abominable practices of the nations.”

[33:9]  11 tn Heb “misled Judah.” The words “the people of” are supplied in the translation for clarity. The Hebrew text uses the name “Judah” here by metonymy for the people of Judah.
