11:23 He wisely placed some of his many sons throughout the regions of Judah and Benjamin in the various fortified cities. ¹  He supplied them with abundant provisions and acquired many wives for them. ² 

2 Tawarikh 28:3

28:3 He offered sacrifices in the Valley of Ben-Hinnom and passed his sons through the fire, ³  a horrible sin practiced by the nations ⁴  whom the Lord drove out before the Israelites.

[11:23]  ¹ tn Heb “and he was discerning and broke up from all his sons to all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to all the fortified cities.”

[11:23]  ² tn “and he asked for a multitude of wives.”

[28:3]  ³ sn This may refer to child sacrifice, though some interpret it as a less drastic cultic practice (NEB “burnt his sons in the fire”; NASB “burned his sons in the fire”; NIV “sacrificed his sons in the fire”; NRSV “made his sons pass through fire”).
