10:11 My father imposed heavy demands on you; I will make them even heavier. ¹  My father punished you with ordinary whips; I will punish you with whips that really sting your flesh.’” ² 

2 Tawarikh 13:8

13:8 Now you are declaring that you will resist the Lord’s rule through the Davidic dynasty. ³  You have a huge army, ⁴  and bring with you the gold calves that Jeroboam made for you as gods.

2 Tawarikh 32:15

32:15 Now don’t let Hezekiah deceive you or mislead you like this. Don’t believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to rescue his people from my power or the power of my predecessors. So how ⁵  can your gods rescue ⁶  you from my power?’”

[10:11]  ¹ tn Heb “and now my father placed upon you a heavy yoke, but I will add to your yoke.”

[10:11]  ² tn Heb “My father punished you with whips, but I [will punish you] with scorpions.” “Scorpions” might allude to some type of torture, but more likely it refers to a type of whip that inflicts an especially biting, painful wound.

[13:8]  ³ tn Heb “the kingdom of the Lord by the hand of the sons of David.”

[13:8]  ⁴ tn Or “horde”; or “multitude.”

[32:15]  ⁵ tn Heb “how much less.”

[32:15]  ⁶ tn The verb is plural, suggesting that the preceding אֱלֹהֵיכֶם (’elohekhem) be translated “your gods,” rather than “your God.”
