[3:18]  1 tc The present translation follows the LXX, the Syriac Peshitta, and Vulgate in reading “I will save,” rather than the MT “he saved.” The context calls for the 1st person common singular imperfect of the verb rather than the 3rd person masculine singular perfect.

[3:18]  2 tn Heb “from the hand of.”

[8:2]  3 tn Heb “and he measured [with] two [lengths] of rope to put to death and [with] the fullness of the rope to keep alive.”

[8:2]  4 tn Heb “and the Moabites were servants of David, carriers of tribute.”

[10:2]  5 tn Heb “do loyalty.”

[10:2]  6 tn Heb “did loyalty.”

[10:2]  7 tn Heb “and David sent to console him by the hand of his servants concerning his father.”

[21:4]  9 tc The translation follows the Qere and several medieval Hebrew mss in reading לָנוּ (lanu, “to us”) rather than the MT לִי (li, “to me”). But for a contrary opinion see S. R. Driver, Notes on the Hebrew Text and the Topography of the Books of Samuel, 53, 350.

[21:4]  10 tn Heb “house.”

[21:4]  11 tn Heb “and he said”; the referent (David) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[23:9]  12 tn Heb “after him.”

[23:9]  13 tc This follows the Qere and many medieval Hebrew mss in reading דֹּדוֹ (dodo) rather than the Kethib of the MT דֹּדַי (dodai; cf. ASV, NIV, NLT). But see 1 Chr 27:4.

[23:9]  14 tn Heb “went up.”

[24:16]  15 tn Heb “messenger.”

[24:16]  16 tn Heb “concerning the calamity.”
