17:21 After the men had left, Ahimaaz and Jonathan ⁸  climbed out of the well. Then they left and informed King David. They advised David, “Get up and cross the stream ⁹  quickly, for Ahithophel has devised a plan to catch you.” ¹⁰ 

2 Samuel 23:9

23:9 Next in command ¹¹  was Eleazar son of Dodo, ¹²  the son of Ahohi. He was one of the three warriors who were with David when they defied the Philistines who were assembled there for battle. When the men of Israel retreated, ¹³ 

[3:18]  ¹ tc The present translation follows the LXX, the Syriac Peshitta, and Vulgate in reading “I will save,” rather than the MT “he saved.” The context calls for the 1st person common singular imperfect of the verb rather than the 3rd person masculine singular perfect.

[3:21]  ³ tn After the cohortatives, the prefixed verbal form with the prefixed conjunction indicates purpose or result.

[12:18]  ⁴ tn Heb “to our voice.”

[12:18]  ⁵ tn Heb “he will do harm.” The object is not stated in the Hebrew text. The statement may be intentionally vague, meaning that he might harm himself or them!

[15:2]  ⁶ tn Heb “your servant.” So also in vv. 8, 15, 21.

[17:14]  ⁷ tn Heb “commanded.”

[17:21]  ⁸ tn Heb “they”; the referents (Ahimaaz and Jonathan) have been specified in the translation for clarity.

[17:21]  ¹⁰ tn Heb “for thus Ahithophel has devised against you.” The expression “thus” is narrative shorthand, referring to the plan outlined by Ahithophel (see vv. 1-3). The men would surely have outlined the plan in as much detail as they had been given by the messenger.

[23:9]  ¹² tc This follows the Qere and many medieval Hebrew mss in reading דֹּדוֹ (dodo) rather than the Kethib of the MT דֹּדַי (dodai; cf. ASV, NIV, NLT). But see 1 Chr 27:4.
