[9:4]  1 tc Heb “the young man, the young man, the prophet.” The MT is probably dittographic, the phrase “the young man” being accidentally repeated. The phrases “the young man” and “the prophet” are appositional, with the latter qualifying more specifically the former.

[2:7]  2 tn Heb “the two of them.” The referents (Elijah and Elisha) have been specified in the translation for clarity.

[4:38]  3 tn Heb “the sons of the prophets were sitting before him.”

[4:38]  4 tn The words “the fire” are added for clarification.

[4:38]  5 tn Heb “sons of the prophets.”

[2:15]  8 tn Heb “the spirit of Elijah.”

[6:1]  9 tn Heb “the sons of the prophets.”

[6:1]  10 tn Heb “sit before you.”

[6:1]  11 tn Heb “narrow, tight.”

[9:1]  12 tn Heb “one of the sons of the prophets.”

[2:3]  15 tn Heb “from your head.” The same expression occurs in v. 5.

[4:1]  16 tn Heb “a wife from among the wives of the sons of the prophets.”

[4:1]  17 tn Or “cried out.”

[4:1]  18 tn Heb “your servant feared the Lord.” “Fear” refers here to obedience and allegiance, the products of healthy respect for the Lord’s authority.

[5:22]  19 tn Heb “peace.”

[5:22]  20 tn Heb “Look now, here, two servants came to me from the Ephraimite hill country, from the sons of the prophets.”

[5:22]  21 tn The Hebrew term כִּכָּר (kikkar, “circle”) refers generally to something that is round. When used of metals it can refer to a disk-shaped weight made of the metal or to a standard unit of weight, generally regarded as a talent. Since the accepted weight for a talent of metal is about 75 pounds, this would have amounted to about 75 pounds of silver (cf. NCV, NLT, CEV).
