8:19 But the Lord was unwilling to destroy Judah. He preserved Judah for the sake of ¹  his servant David to whom he had promised a perpetual dynasty. ²

13:3 The Lord was furious with ³  Israel and handed them over to ⁴  King Hazael of Syria and to Hazael’s son Ben Hadad for many years. ⁵

17:18 So the Lord was furious ⁶  with Israel and rejected them; ⁷  only the tribe of Judah was left.

[8:19]  ¹ tn The Hebrew has only one sentence, “and the Lord was unwilling to destroy Judah for the sake of.” The translation divides it for the sake of clarity.

[8:19]  ² tn Heb “just as he had promised to give him and his sons a lamp all the days.” The metaphorical “lamp” symbolizes the Davidic dynasty; this is reflected in the translation.

[13:3]  ³ tn Heb “and the anger of the Lord burned against.”

[13:3]  ⁴ tn Heb “he gave them into the hand of.”
