5:22 He answered, “Everything is fine. ¹  My master sent me with this message, ‘Look, two servants of the prophets just arrived from the Ephraimite hill country. ²  Please give them a talent ³  of silver and two suits of clothes.’”

9:5 When he arrived, the officers of the army were sitting there. ⁴  So he said, “I have a message for you, O officer.” ⁵  Jehu asked, “For which one of us?” ⁶  He replied, “For you, O officer.”

9:36 When they went back and told him, he said, “The Lord’s word through his servant, Elijah the Tishbite, has come to pass. He warned, ⁷  ‘In the plot of land at Jezreel, dogs will devour Jezebel’s flesh.

17:23 Finally ⁸  the Lord rejected Israel ⁹  just as he had warned he would do ¹⁰  through all his servants the prophets. Israel was deported from its land to Assyria and remains there to this very day.

17:27 So the king of Assyria ordered, “Take back one of the priests whom you ¹¹  deported from there. He must settle there and teach them the requirements of the God of the land.” ¹²

[5:22]  ³ tn The Hebrew term כִּכָּר (kikkar, “circle”) refers generally to something that is round. When used of metals it can refer to a disk-shaped weight made of the metal or to a standard unit of weight, generally regarded as a talent. Since the accepted weight for a talent of metal is about 75 pounds, this would have amounted to about 75 pounds of silver (cf. NCV, NLT, CEV).

However, some prefer to read “whom I deported,” changing the verb to a first person singular form with a third masculine plural pronominal suffix. This reading has some support from Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic witnesses.

[17:27]  ¹² tc Heb “and let them go and let them live there, and let him teach them the requirements of the God of the land.” The two plural verbs seem inconsistent with the preceding and following contexts, where only one priest is sent back to Samaria. The singular has the support of Greek, Syriac, and Latin witnesses.

[24:2]  ¹³ tn Heb “he sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke by the hand of his servants the prophets.”
