4:13 Elisha said to Gehazi, ¹  “Tell her, ‘Look, you have treated us with such great respect. ²  What can I do for you? Can I put in a good word for you with the king or the commander of the army?’” She replied, “I’m quite secure.” ³

13:19 The prophet ⁵  got angry at him and said, “If you had struck the ground five or six times, you would have annihilated Syria! ⁶  But now, you will defeat Syria only three times.”

21:6 He passed his son ⁷  through the fire ⁸  and practiced divination and omen reading. He set up a ritual pit to conjure up underworld spirits, and appointed magicians to supervise it. ⁹  He did a great amount of evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger. ¹⁰

[4:13]  ² tn Heb “you have turned trembling to us with all this trembling.” The exaggerated language is probably idiomatic. The point seems to be that she has taken great pains or gone out of her way to be kind to them. Her concern was a sign of her respect for the prophetic office.

[4:13]  ³ tn Heb “Among my people I am living.” This answer suggests that she has security within the context of her family.

[6:20]  ⁴ tn Heb “and they saw, and look, [they were] in the middle of Samaria.”

[13:19]  ⁵ tn Heb “man of God.”

[21:6]  ⁹ tn Heb “and he set up a ritual pit, along with conjurers.” The Hebrew אוֹב (’ov), “ritual pit,” refers to a pit used by a magician to conjure up underworld spirits. In 1 Sam 28:7 the witch of Endor is called a בַעֲלַת אוֹב (ba’alat ’ov), “owner of a ritual pit.” See H. Hoffner, “Second millennium Antecedents to the Hebrew ’OñBù,” JBL 86 (1967), 385-401.

[21:6]  ¹⁰ tc Heb “and he multiplied doing what is evil in the eyes of the Lord, angering.” The third masculine singular pronominal suffix (“him”) has been accidentally omitted in the MT by haplography (note the vav that immediately follows).
