Conduct in God’s Church

3:14 I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these instructions ¹  to you

1 Timotius 4:13

4:13 Until I come, give attention to the public reading of scripture, ²  to exhortation, to teaching.

[3:14]  sn These instructions refer to the instructions about local church life, given in 1 Tim 2:1–3:13.

[4:13]  ² tn Grk “reading.”

[4:13]  sn The public reading of scripture refers to reading the scripture out loud in the church services. In a context where many were illiterate and few could afford private copies of scripture, such public reading was especially important.
