• [1Tim 3:15] Church Of The Living God

  Church of the living God, Pillar and ground of truth, Keep the old paths the fathers trod In thy illumined youth. Lo, in thy bosom lies The touchstone for the age; Seducing error shrinks and dies At light from yonder page. Woe to the hands that dare, By lust of power enticed To mingle with the doctrine there The frauds of Antichrist. Once to the saints was giv’n All blessèd Gospel lore; There, written down in words from Heav’n, Thou hast it evermore. Fear not, though doubts abound, And scoffing tongues deride; Love of God’s Word finds surer ground When to the utmost tried. Toil at thy sacred text; More fruitful grows the field; Each generation to the next Prepares a richer yield. God’s Spirit in the Church, Still lives unspent, untired, Inspiring hearts that fain would search The truths Himself inspired. Move, Holy Ghost, with might Amongst us as of old; Dispel the falsehood, and unite In true faith and true fold.

  One holy Church of God appears Through every age and race, Unwasted by the lapse of years, Unchanged by changing place. From oldest time, on farthest shores, Beneath the pine or palm, One unseen Presence she adores, With silence, or with psalm. The truth is her prophetic gift, The soul her sacred page; And feet on mercy’s errands swift Do make her pilgrimage. O living Church, thine errand speed, Fulfill thy task sublime; With Bread of life earth’s hungers feed; Redeem the evil time!

• [1Tim 4:10] Eternal One, Thou Living God

  Eternal One, Thou living God, Whom changing years unchanged reveal, With Thee their way our fathers trod; The hand they held, in ours we feel. The same our trust, the same our need, In sorrow’s stress, in duty’s hour; We keep their faith, by Thee decreed, That faith the fount of all our power. We bless Thee for the growing light; Th’advancing thought, the wid’ning view, The larger freedom, clearer sight, Which from the old unfolds the new. With wider view, come loftier goal; With fuller light, more good to see; With freedom, truer self control, With knowledge, deeper reverence be. Anew we pledge ourselves to Thee, To follow where Thy truth shall lead; Afloat upon its boundless sea, Who sails with God is safe indeed!

• [1Tim 4:10] Lord Is Our Trust, The

  I know not where the path may lead, How dark the way that I must tread; My feet may walk on fragrant mead, Or midst deep bogs that ’round them spread. Refrain But this I know, whate’er betide, I need not fear nor walk alone; I still may have One at my side, And feel my hand within His own. I may not have strength of my own, To do the task before me laid; Heart shrink to make the fight alone Against the foe I see arrayed. Refrain But this I know, whate’er the task, Or foe that seeks my soul’s alarm, I need not fear; I need but ask The helpful strength of His strong arm. Refrain I may not know what waits the day, Nor part the veil that hangs between; I may not glimpse one golden ray Upon the further distant scene. Refrain But this I know, if with my best I played the part I had to play, ’Tis safe to leave to Him the rest, For His own time, in His own way. Refrain
