The Call of Samuel

3:1 Now the boy Samuel continued serving the Lord under Eli’s supervision. ¹  Word from the Lord was rare in those days; revelatory visions were infrequent.

1 Samuel 9:27

9:27 While they were going down to the edge of town, Samuel said to Saul, “Tell the servant to go on ahead of us.” So he did. ²  Samuel then said, ³  “You remain here awhile, so I can inform you of God’s message.”

Saul Is Rejected as King

15:1 Then Samuel said to Saul, “I was the one the Lord sent to anoint you as king over his people Israel. Now listen to what the Lord says. ⁴  15:2 Here is what the Lord of hosts says: ‘I carefully observed how the Amalekites opposed ⁵  Israel along the way when Israel ⁶  came up from Egypt.
