[8:4]  1 tn Heb “the tent of assembly.”

[8:4]  sn The tent of meeting. See Exod 33:7-11.

[8:4]  2 tn Heb “and they carried the ark of the Lord…. The priests and the Levites carried them.”

[8:41]  3 tn Heb “your name.” In the OT the word “name” sometimes refers to one’s reputation or honor. The “name” of the Lord sometimes designates the Lord himself, being indistinguishable from the proper name.

[11:20]  4 tn Heb “bore him Genubath his son.”

[11:20]  5 tc The Hebrew text reads וַתִּגְמְלֵהוּ (vattigmÿlehu, “weaned him”) but a slight alteration of the consonantal text yields וַתִּגְדְלֵהוּ (vattigdÿlehu, “raised him”), which seems to make better sense.

[12:9]  6 tn In the Hebrew text the verb “we will respond” is plural, although it can be understood as an editorial “we.” The ancient versions have the singular here.

[12:9]  7 tn Heb “Lighten the yoke which your father placed on us.”

[14:22]  8 tn Heb “in the eyes of.”

[14:22]  9 tn Heb “and they made him jealous more than all which their fathers had done by their sins which they sinned.”

[16:13]  10 tn Heb “angering the Lord God of Israel with their empty things.”

[18:40]  11 tn Or “slaughtered.”

[20:17]  12 map For location see Map2 B1; Map4 D3; Map5 E2; Map6 A4; Map7 C1.

[21:26]  13 tn The Hebrew word used here, גִלּוּלִים (gillulim) is always used as a disdainful reference to idols. It is generally thought to have originally referred to “dung pellets” (cf. KBL 183 s.v. גִלּוּלִים). It is only one of several terms used in this way, such as אֱלִילִים (’elilim, “worthless things”) and הֲבָלִים (havalim, “vanities” or “empty winds”).

[21:26]  14 tn Heb “He acted very abominably by walking after the disgusting idols, according to all which the Amorites had done.”
