8:25 Now, O Lord, God of Israel, keep the promise you made to your servant, my father David, when you said, ‘You will never fail to have a successor ruling before me on the throne of Israel, ¹  provided that your descendants watch their step and serve me as you have done.’ ²

12:16 When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, the people answered the king, “We have no portion in David, no share in the son of Jesse! ³  Return to your homes, O Israel! ⁴  Now, look after your own dynasty, O David!” ⁵  So Israel returned to their homes. ⁶ 

1 Raja-raja 12:32

12:32 Jeroboam inaugurated a festival on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, ⁷  like the festival celebrated in Judah. ⁸  On the altar in Bethel he offered sacrifices to the calves he had made. ⁹  In Bethel he also appointed priests for the high places he had made.

19:11 The Lord ¹⁰  said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord. Look, the Lord is ready to pass by.”

A very powerful wind went before the Lord, digging into the mountain and causing landslides, ¹¹  but the Lord was not in the wind. After the windstorm there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.

[8:25]  ¹ tn Heb “there will not be cut off from you a man from before me sitting on the throne of Israel.”

[8:25]  ² tn Heb “guard their way by walking before me as you have walked before me.”

[12:16]  ³ sn We have no portion in David; no share in the son of Jesse. Their point seems to be that they have no familial relationship with David that brings them any benefits or places upon them any obligations. They are being treated like outsiders.

[12:16]  ⁴ tn Heb “to your tents, Israel.” The word “return” is supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[12:16]  ⁵ tn Heb “Now see your house, David.”

[12:16]  ⁶ tn Heb “went to their tents.”

[12:32]  ⁷ sn The eighth month would correspond to October-November in modern reckoning.

[12:32]  ⁸ sn The festival he celebrated in Judah probably refers to the Feast of Tabernacles (i.e., Booths or Temporary Shelters), held in the seventh month (September-October). See also 1 Kgs 8:2.

[12:32]  ⁹ tn Heb “and he offered up [sacrifices] on the altar; he did this in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves which he had made.”
