1 Kings 7:48-50

7:48 Solomon also made all these items for the Lord’s temple: the gold altar, the gold table on which was kept the Bread of the Presence, ¹  7:49 the pure gold lampstands at the entrance to the inner sanctuary (five on the right and five on the left), the gold flower-shaped ornaments, lamps, and tongs, 7:50 the pure gold bowls, trimming shears, basins, pans, and censers, and the gold door sockets for the inner sanctuary (the most holy place) and for the doors of the main hall of the temple.

1 Kings 7:2

7:2 He named ²  it “The Palace of the Lebanon Forest”; ³  it was 150 feet ⁴  long, 75 feet ⁵  wide, and 45 feet ⁶  high. It had four rows of cedar pillars and cedar beams above the pillars.

1 Kings 1:13

1:13 Visit ⁷  King David and say to him, ‘My master, O king, did you not solemnly promise ⁸  your servant, “Surely your son Solomon will be king after me; he will sit on my throne”? So why has Adonijah become king?’

[7:48]  ¹ tn Heb “the bread of the face [or presence].” Many recent English versions employ “the bread of the Presence,” although this does not convey much to the modern reader.

[7:2]  ² tn Heb “he built.”

[7:2]  ³ sn The Palace of the Lebanon Forest. This name was appropriate because of the large amount of cedar, undoubtedly brought from Lebanon, used in its construction. The cedar pillars in the palace must have given it the appearance of a forest.

[7:2]  ⁴ tn Heb “one hundred cubits.”

[7:2]  ⁵ tn Heb “fifty cubits.”

[7:2]  ⁶ tn Heb “thirty cubits.”

[1:13]  ³ tn Heb “come, go to.” The imperative of הָלַךְ (halakh) is here used as an introductory interjection. See BDB 234 s.v. חָלַךְ.

[1:13]  ⁴ tn Or “swear an oath to.”
