3:3 Solomon demonstrated his loyalty to the Lord by following ¹  the practices ²  of his father David, except that he offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places.

16:24 He purchased the hill of Samaria ⁷  from Shemer for two talents ⁸  of silver. He launched a construction project there ⁹  and named the city he built after Shemer, the former owner of the hill of Samaria.

[16:24]  ⁸ tn The Hebrew term כִּכָּר (kikkar, “circle”) refers generally to something that is round. When used of metals it can refer to a disk-shaped weight made of the metal or to a standard unit of weight, generally regarded as a talent. Since the accepted weight for a talent of metal is about 75 pounds, this would have amounted to about 150 pounds of silver.
