2:32 May the Lord punish him for the blood he shed; ¹  behind my father David’s back he struck down and murdered with the sword two men who were more innocent and morally upright than he ²  – Abner son of Ner, commander of Israel’s army, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah’s army.

10:9 May the Lord your God be praised because he favored ⁵  you by placing you on the throne of Israel! Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he made you king so you could make just and right decisions.” ⁶

14:8 I tore the kingdom away from the Davidic dynasty and gave it to you. But you are not like my servant David, who kept my commandments and followed me wholeheartedly by doing only what I approve. ⁷

[2:32]  ² tn Heb “because he struck down two men more innocent and better than he and he killed them with the sword, and my father David did not know.”

[3:10]  ³ tn The Hebrew term translated “Lord” here and in v.15 is אֲדֹנָי (’adonay).

[3:10]  ⁴ tn Heb “And the thing was good in the eyes of the Lord, for Solomon asked for this thing.”
