[8:63]  1 tn Or “tokens of peace”; NIV, TEV “fellowship offerings.”

[8:2]  2 sn The festival. This was the Feast of Tabernacles, see Lev 23:34.

[8:2]  3 sn The month Ethanim. This would be September-October in modern reckoning.

[1:6]  4 tn Or “disciplined.”

[1:6]  5 tn Heb “did not correct him from his days.” The phrase “from his days” means “from his earliest days,” or “ever in his life.” See GKC 382 §119.w, n. 2.

[1:6]  6 tn Heb “and she gave birth to him after Absalom.” This does not imply they had the same mother; Absalom’s mother was Maacah, not Haggith (2 Sam 3:4).

[7:5]  7 tn Heb “all of the doors and doorposts.”

[7:5]  8 sn Rectangular in shape. That is, rather than arched.

[7:5]  9 tn Heb “and all the entrances and the doorposts [had] four frames, and in front of opening to opening three times” (the precise meaning of the description is uncertain).

[1:32]  10 sn SummonNathan. Nathan must have left the room when Bathsheba reentered.

[1:33]  11 tn Heb “the king.”

[1:33]  12 tn The plural form is used in the Hebrew text to indicate honor and authority.

[1:33]  13 tn Heb “mount Solomon my son on the mule that belongs to me and take him down to Gihon.”

[1:34]  14 tn Or “designate” (i.e., by anointing with oil).

[1:35]  15 tn Or “commanded.”

[40:16]  16 tn The words “for a sacrifice” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

[40:16]  17 sn The point is that not even the Lebanon forest could supply enough wood and animals for an adequate sacrifice to the Lord.

[6:6]  18 sn With what should I enter the Lord’s presence? The prophet speaks again, playing the role of an inquisitive worshiper who wants to know what God really desires from his followers.

[6:6]  19 tn The words “with what” do double duty in the parallelism and are supplied in the second line of the translation for clarification.

[6:6]  20 tn Or “the exalted God.”

[6:7]  21 tn Heb “the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul.” The Hebrew term נֶפֶשׁ (nefesh) is often translated “soul,” but the word usually refers to the whole person; here “the sin of my soul” = “my sin.”
